From the film itself to findings you can check.

1. Your material

Provide the film. If you want the analysis to take account of your intended approach or a venue's screening requirements, include that information.

2. Observations

Tools analyze speech, visuals, editing and sound in the full analysis profile. Relevant observations retain their locations and connections.

3. Interpretation

The model considers the film as a whole alongside applicable principles: how the story and characters develop, what supports engagement and what gets in its way. Findings are supported by evidence from the film.

4. Your report

The results are assembled into a summary, detailed analysis and a technical report in PDF and HTML. The matrix and radial view provide another way to explore the findings.

The basis of the analysis

The SpektrArt Canon brings together professional principles and research on perception. Applicable principles are selected for the work's form, purpose and available evidence. An observation about a scene applies to that scene; a conclusion about the whole film needs evidence at the level of the whole.

How to read the report

Start with the summary. For an important finding, open its evidence and the relevant passage in the film. A measurement, an observation and an interpretation may have different degrees of certainty. Missing information should be identified where it affects a conclusion.

The matrix in context

The 8 × 6 matrix is a way to explore the analysis in more depth. An empty cell does not establish that a strength or problem is absent. It does not, on its own, show whether every relevant aspect has been checked. The number of principles in the knowledge base does not mean that all of them apply to, or have been checked in, every film.

AI can make mistakes.

A timestamp helps you check a finding; disputed or unknown information should be identified. Quotations and locations help you decide which conclusions you agree with.
